This long established centre located in the Scottish Borders is a hospital dedicated to treating alcohol and chemical dependency. Each patient's treatment programme is individually structured to meet his/her and his/her family's particular requirements. A primary therapist is allocated to each patient and their family. The therapist is responsible for one-to-one counselling sessions which bring about constructive changes in personal and family situations in behaviour, in beliefs, in attitudes and in communications essential in recovery. Group therapy under a therapist's direction provides additional reinforcement of the patient's acceptance and understanding of their illness. Chemical dependency affects all involved with the addicted patient including spouses, children, colleagues and employers. The spouse and the employer, wherever possible, are encouraged to involve and participate in the treatment and aftercare planning. The Hospital offers a weekly aftercare group and aftercare counselling.

This programme offers a free initial assessment by a member of the addictions team prior to admission. The programme itself is a group
therapy, abstinence based programme with individual work, where appropriate. Patient care is our primary concern and this is demonstrated
by our efforts to make the patients stay here as comfortable as possible. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the multi-disciplinary
team of doctors, nurses, counsellors and therapists are trained to the highest standards. The environment we create for patients is as
important as the treatment itself and each patient has the privacy of their own comfortable bedroom with television, telephone and en-suite
facilities. The Hospital is the only independent acute psychiatric hospital in Scotland specialising in the treatment and management of
addictions and psychiatric disorders. Free Aftercare and Support is available for all patients who have completed the addictions
programme.
